Retail unit chance at refurbished bus station

Businesses are being given the chance to take up one of the purpose-built retail units at the new city bus station.

Swansea Council has formally advertised the sites and is hoping businesses will snap up the chance to become part of one of the most modern transport facilities in the country.

Development of the multi-million pound transport facility started last year and when completed the station will be the main hub for public transport in the city.

Cllr John Hague, Cabinet Member for the Environment in Swansea Council, said: “Our new bus station will offer people more than just public transport services. It will help extend the city’s retail centre and will be a welcoming destination for residents and visitors to the city.

“Businesses will hopefully see the benefits of locating themselves within the bus station and help us create a modern and friendly atmosphere.”

Lisa Wells, City Centre Manager, said: “The retail units within the new bus station will offer an excellent interface with both the shops in the Quadrant Shopping Centre and the surrounding independent trading areas.

“Recent new openings such as H&M and Roberto Durville have enhanced the city’s shopping offer and I’m confident that the occupancy of these new units will make the city centre even more appealing to shoppers and visitors alike.”

When completed, the new station will house 20 bus bays, three coach stands, a modern passenger waiting area, ticketing services and Shopmobility facilities.

The project has received significant funding from the Welsh Assembly Government and the Wales European Funding Office.
