Wrexham fireworks retailers are to be congratulated on the responsible attitude they took in the run up to bonfire night this year.
Councillor David Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport comments
“Trading Standards Officers accompanied child volunteers who attempted to purchase fireworks from around 20 retailers throughout the Wrexham area. I am pleased to report that no sales were made and on each occasion the child was challenged about their age and asked for proof of age. This goes to show that the publicity and advice on firework safety offered by the Trading Standards Service in the run up to bonfire night is having the desired affect. However I am concerned about reports received of firework sales taking place from private houses and vans – fireworks should only be sold and purchased from appropriately licensed premises ”.
Firework displays now form integral part of New Year celebrations, and firework retailers are asked to be equally vigilant when selling fireworks during the busy Christmas shopping period.
