The first ever Partnerships and Communities Together (PACT) Open Day in the Rhondda has been hailed a success with up to 4,000 people attending the event.
The Rhondda Community Family Day held on Sunday, May 9th was organised by South Wales Police in partnership with the community.
Gates at Greenwood Park, Ferndale, opened at midday for the free five-hour event which included live music, more than 40 different stalls, a small funfair, and a football tournament.
Local officers were on hand to show how crimes are solved using fingerprint technology while the police horses, motorbikes, museum stand and search unit proved big attractions.
The day culminated in a display from the South Wales Police Armed Response Vehicle Unit supported by the dog section.
Free shuttle buses for visitors were kindly provided by Rhondda Life, Penrhys Partnership, Penygraig Communities First, CwmNi, Edwards Coaches, and Alva’a Taxis.
A charity auction and raffle were also held to raise money for Rhondda Breast Friends.
Rhondda Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Mike Jones, who co-ordinated the event, said: “It was an opportunity for people to meet their local officers in an informal way and it highlighted that South Wales Police are very much part of the local community.
“I am delighted that the good people of the Rhondda, and further afield, had the opportunity to enjoy a day with us and I hope it reassured them about the commitment of South Wales Police, and the PACT process, to improve their quality of life and how hard we are working for them.
“We could not have organised this event without the help of our partners, including the Porth Chamber of Trade, and I am truly grateful to all those who helped make the day such a tremendous success.”
