Wales’ youngest Councillor was today welcomed as a member of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council.
Council Leader Russell Roberts was one of the first to greet the newly-elected member for Treherbert, 19-year-old Luke Bouchard.
Cllr Roberts said: “It is a privilege to welcome Luke as our youngest representative.I think it is an immense coup for the Council to have Wales’ youngest Councillor as part of our team, as it further strengthens the breadth of diversity we have within our decision-makers.
“Luke has a clear vision for Treherbert and he will provide an enthusiastic and energetic voice for his community. At our first meeting, Luke raised a number of important issues he wishes to see address by the Council on behalf of the people of Treherbert.
“Luke is already demonstrating his commitment to his community and his ability to be act as a strong advocate for the people of Treherbert on this Council.
“As a young member Luke, will provide an important perspective when discussing and considering the challenges we face in the coming months and weeks.”
Cllr Bouchard, ward member for Treherbert, added: ” It is an honour and a privilege to represent Treherbert on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council. I am commited to working with the Council to deliver real and tangible improvements for Treherbert.
“I have already raised a number of important issues with the Council Leader, which local residents have raised with me since becoming a Councillor last week.
“I am passionate about ensuring the views and interests of my community are heard loud and clear within the Council.”
A by-election was held in the Treherbert ward following the resignation of the previous Councillor.
