The library in Rhoose has reopened after a complete interior refurbishment.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has already invested in the library by extending opening hours and making improvements to the building, and the latest work was carried out with funding of £70,000 from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The much-needed facelift includes new shelving and display facilities, new wall and ceiling finishes, a customer toilet and baby changing facility, improved lighting and upgrading of the library frontage.
Use of the library has grown significantly in recent years as the local population has increased and the library’s services have been extended. Modern computer facilities, with free internet access, are available alongside the traditional book lending service, and there is a popular programme of events and activities for children.
The library was re-opened by Council leader Cllr Gordon Kemp, who said: “The library is a valuable community resource, social centre and a haven for book lovers. It is a source of local information as well as a gateway to online resources.
“Children from Rhws Primary School are enthusiastic library users and use the library as a source of books for enjoyment as well as help with homework.”
