Swansea is supporting National Carers Week 2010 with a series of events from day trips to Rhossili to a special forum for carers.
The week aims to highlight the vital work done by those who provide unpaid care for someone who is ill, frail or disabled.
Swansea organisations are teaming up for Carers Week to provide events which highlight caring, inform carers and give carers a chance to inform services.
Swansea Council Cabinet member for Social Services Cllr Nick Tregoning said: “The carers I meet are selfless and compassionate. They demonstrate what love in action – true charity – looks like.
“I hope these events will highlight the role of carers, the support available and enable them to help us develop future services.”
Events include:
• On June 15 and 16 Swansea Carers Centre is holding Open Days at its Mansel Street base from 11am to 4pm. Carers and professionals are welcome to call in for a cuppa and find out first hand the services there.
• On June 16 from 10am Swansea Social Services and Swansea Carers Centre are organising a forum for Carers who have had a Carers Assessment at the Dylan Thomas Centre event carers can give their views on the Carers Assessment process such as how helpful it was to them and what support they gained as a result.
• Swansea Council’s Mentro Allan team are also working in partnership with Swansea Carers Centre to organise events for carers, such as a day trip to Rhossili on June 18. They will also be promoting Carers Week and giving out information for carers from the City and County Swansea Trailer outside Marks and Spencer during the week.
