A blueprint which sets out the strategy for future regeneration in Rhyl has been given the green light by Denbighshire’s Cabinet yesterday (Thursday).
The Cabinet, meeting in Ruthin approved the strategy, known as the Rhyl Going Forward Delivery Plan.
The Delivery Plan highlights four key areas for action:
West Rhyl Regeneration Area – where the plan to respond to a long-standing community aspiration to create a new green space in the heart of West Rhyl. Further investment will be made in refurbishing homes around the new green space, along with the development of some new, family housing.
Tourism and the Coastal Strip – where the Council will be building on Rhyl’s reputation as a family resort by providing appropriate facilities to sustain and grow this market
Retail and the Town Centre – where the strategy is to re-establish Rhyl as a prime retail location providing “high street” stores, good quality independent shops and a vibrant market.
Housing and Neighbourhoods – which looks at how we can improve the quality of homes in Rhyl, along with the open spaces and facilities which surround them.
Councillor David Thomas, Cabinet Lead Member for Regeneration, said: “Work has already been carried out in Rhyl to improve its image and the quality of life for residents and visitors through various programmes, including the North Wales Coast Strategic Regeneration Area, the Rhyl Going Forward programme and the Rhyl City Strategy.
“We want this investment to have a lasting legacy in Rhyl. We want to create a sustainable housing market in West Rhyl; we want to attract more people to the town through an improved retail leisure and shopping offer and create opportunities for jobs by attracting new businesses to locate in the town.
“There has been a lot of consultation over recent months where people have had plenty of opportunities to have their say.
“The Rhyl Going Forward Delivery Plan now sets out a clear strategy on how to move forward with our regeneration activity in Rhyl through effective partnership working and the involvement of the local community”.
The projects will involve a wide range of partners, including the Welsh Government, Rhyl Town Council, West Rhyl First, Pennaf Housing, BRAND, Coleg Llandrillo Cymru, Rhyl Business Group, and the Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council.
