Maintenance work on the Foryd Road Bridge in Rhyl, which was scheduled to begin in January has now been postponed until later in the year.
The work planned for January was to replace the bridge’s bearings, however a number of issues have resulted in the work being delayed.
They include waiting for listed building consent from CADW and long lead-in times for the manufacture of the specialist bearings.
Further works are planned in 2010 to apply a waterproof membrane to the bridge deck and to renew the road surfacing.
The works will be programmed so that both sets of works will be carried out at the same time, to save costs and minimise traffic disruption. The works will be programmed, as far as possible, to avoid peak holiday times. Where possible road closures will be restricted to night time, however some lane closures, with traffic lights in operation, will be unavoidable.
It is expected that the work will take three months, and once a date has been agreed, signs will be placed in the area to warn residents and motorists of the impending traffic restrictions.
