Rhyl to Benefit from Major Social Enterprise Investment

Ann Jones AMLabour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones has warmly welcomed that Rhyl will be become the Carnegie Trust’s first ever Welsh TestTown, which will enable young people to develop their entrepreneurial skills and see empty town centre premises brought back into use.

Mrs Jones said:

“This is fantastic news for our town. Rhyl has so much unused potential and this new initiative could really help to turn around our town centre which has struggled over the past few years.

“It will also give our young people vital skills and encourage them to consider creating their own business.

“I look forward to popping into the businesses over the summer and seeing all the wonderful ideas that our young people have”.

The TestTown will encourage young entrepreneurs aged 16 to 30 to create innovative new businesses to help bring energy back to flagging town centres. The TestTown will be delivered by Carnegie Trust, in conjunction with Coleg Llandrillo and Denbighshire County Council. The project will begin this summer.

Mrs Jones added: “I want to pay particular tribute to all the staff from Llandrillo College who have been involved in working to ensure that this investment was brought to Rhyl”.

The project represents the single biggest investment made by the Carnegie Trust in Wales for over a decade.
