Children in Cwmdare Primary School were treated to a very special green VIP guest in a bid to kick start their schools environment week.
Rhys Cycle has been doing the rounds again by spreading the important recycling message to children at the school.
The youngsters were delighted to see Rhys Cycle when he dropped in to help them celebrate their environment week and discover all about the world of recycling and environmental issues. The Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s environmental mascot is once again out and about helping the Streetcare Enforcement Team bring young people up to date on all the exciting new recycling schemes on offer in the County Borough.
The Streetcare Enforcement Team also joined the children and teachers on their litter pick in the village in a bid to clean up Cwmdare. During the clean-up the children pulled on their gloves and special yellow coats and set about cleaning up the waste left by thoughtless environmental offenders.
Whilst undertaking the pick-up operation, the Council’s Enforcement Team highlighted the issues they face on a daily basis and educated the children on how they can become greener everyday by following simple tips – like recycling at home, keeping their sweet wrappers in their pocket until they find a bin and encouraging their parents and friends to the same.
And if the pupils don’t get the chance to see him in person just yet, they can visit his award-winning website, The World of Rhys Cycle, at www.rhyscycle.co.uk.
The Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Frontline Services Cllr Anthony Christopher said: “Children always enjoy a visit from Rhys as he continues to give them the clear message of how important it is to recycle and protect the environment.
“Rhondda Cynon Taf is pioneering in its approach to waste management and with such public events we can hopefully ensure that future generations will recycle waste, while also encouraging the adults at home to do the same.”
Everyone in Rhondda Cynon Taf can recycle from home through the kerbside recycling scheme. Recycling bags can be obtained free from your collection crew or by calling 01443 494700. You can also pick them up from libraries, Communities First offices or the Council’s One4All centres or alternatively leave a sticker/note on your bags requesting more before you run out.
