The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) is taking its place in the line-up at the Wakestock festival in Abersoch, North Wales, from 1 to 4 July.
Wakestock is Europe’s largest wakeboard music festival, and the RNLI is pleased to be supporting it and playing its part in making the event a big success.
The RNLI is also the designated charity at the event.
An RNLI lifeguard team and an RNLI events team will be organising events throughout the festival to highlight the work of the charity.
The charity that saves lives at sea will be organising a special demonstration exercise at the event, on Friday 2 July at 4.30pm pm, to showcase the highly professional service it runs on more than 150 beaches throughout Britain.
RNLI Deputy Divisional Lifeguard Manager Phil Davies said: ‘Wakestock, now in its tenth year, is a fantastic celebration of wakeboarding – with some of the best wakeboarders on the planet at the event – as well as a fantastic celebration of music and life at the beach, which are so organically linked for those who participate in water sports on the beach.
‘We are very grateful to the event organisers for making us the designated charity, and helping the vital work the RNLI does in saving lives at sea.’
‘In the past decade, RNLI lifeguards – many of whom are keen surfers, wakeboarders and participants in other water sports – have become a way of life for many beach users in Britain. So, we are really pleased to be making what we regard as a significant contribution to this world-renowned event.
‘Our lifeguarding exercise will, we are sure, show the importance of beach safety to many of those attending the event and go a long way to getting our beach safety messages across to an important audience of beach users.’
As well as the RNLI demonstration, which will take place from 4.30pm on Friday 2 July – where lifeguards and lifeboat will combine – there will also be lifeguard workshops and an RNLI events team on site organising activities such as beach olympics, firewalking, and highlighting the beach safety messages from the charity that saves lives at sea.
RNLI events manager for Wales, Charlotte Bird, had this message for those heading off to Wakestock this year: ‘Make sure you check all the activities being put on by TEAM RNLI, whether you on the beach at Abersoch or at the festival site, there will be something to keep you entertained and for you to join in with.
‘If planning on setting up camp on Thursday evening, then grab one of the RNLI volunteer team who will be happy to help you set up camp and assist you with putting your tents up.
‘Then, when event goers are settled in, they can head to the arena and take part in our charity fire and glass walk, something a little different to kick off the festival experience. Places will be limited for this so make sure you don’t miss out and go to http://www.rnli.org.uk/rnli_near_you/west/event_detail?articleid=550389&categoryid=21824 to register
