A kite surfer who got into trouble when his equipment failed was rescued yesterady afternoon at Newgale north beach (19 July). RNLI lifeguards spotted the man drifting out to sea, after he failed to re-launch his kite, which went down at 1.30pm.
RNLI lifeguard Scott Candler paddled out to the man with his rescue board and signalled for help from the inshore rescue boat, currently being trailed at Newgale. Both were brought safely back to the shore.
Chris Rigby, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor says:
‘Visitors to the beach are advised to check signage developed by Pembrokeshire County Council, displaying best practice guidelines for such activities such as kite surfing.
‘People using the water are advised to speak with RNLI lifeguards who will be able to offer them advice on matters such as tides and weather conditions to keep them as safe as possible.’
