RNLI lifeguards will be returning to another 4 of Ceredigion’s beaches this Saturday (9 July) to offer world-class first aid and safety service to the public for the summer season.
The charity’s lifeguards will be at their units from 10am on Saturday at Aberystwyth South, Borth, Clarach and Tresaith beaches ready for the start of the school summer holidays. The lifeguards have already been patrolling Aberystwyth North, New Quay, Llangrannog and Aberporth since 25 June.
Since the 25 June the RNLI lifeguarded beaches in Ceredigion have been relatively quiet, although the lifeguards have responded to many incidents of members that have being stung by weaver fish. If anyone is stung by a weaver fish or jellyfish on a lifeguarded beach, the RNLI asks the public to report the incident to the charity’s lifeguards as they can provide first aid and assistance to the individual.
RNLI Lifeguards have been busy training, preparing their equipment and passing vital fitness tests over the past few weeks to ensure that they provide the highest standard of lifesaving service to the public in Ceredigion this season. The charity’s lifeguards will be patrolling the beaches and offering vital safety advice between 10am-6pm seven days a week until 4 September.
Elin Jones, Ceredigion RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor said:
‘The charity’s lifeguards are looking forward to return to Aberystwyth South, Borth, Clarach and Tresaith beaches in Ceredigion this weekend. They have all been put through their paces over the past few weeks to ensure the highest level of fitness and training to help save lives on Welsh beaches this summer.’
‘RNLI lifeguards can provide tips and advice to help beachgoers avoid any unfortunate incidences that may occur during the day. The lifeguards will place red and yellow flags on the beach every morning and we ask the public to stay between these flags as these are the safest place to swim. If you get into trouble raise your hand and shout for help and the lifeguards will come to your assistance.’
Although we all hope for sunshine this summer the lifeguards will be prepared for all sorts of weather. In case of bad weather this summer the RNLI and corporate partner Helly Hansen have teamed up to develop a specifically designed poncho which will be available to lifeguards on all 163 RNLI lifeguard beaches. The RNLI Poncho is a wind and waterproof layer designed to keep the lifeguards warm and dry. It is a key piece of the clothing and equipment the charity provide its lifeguards in order to respond to any emergency in all weather conditions.
