It was not what Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeguards were expecting when patrolling Aberavon Beach for the first time over Easter.
The lifeguards came to the aid of an unusual casualty when they gave assistance to a dog suffering a stroke on the beach.
The quick-thinking lifeguards were able to get the stricken animal onto the lifeguard truck and drove it to the nearest vet.
RNLI area Lifeguard Supervisor for Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, Chris Vaughan says: ‘This was the first weekend of operation for RNLI lifeguards at Aberavon Beach, and our lifeguards were prepared for most eventualities.
‘However, this was one event that wasn’t on our list of potential incidents.
‘Nevertheless, we were glad to be of help and get the dog the assistance it needed.
‘We understand that the dog has made a full recovery and its owners have expressed their thanks to the lifeguards for their efforts.’
