Colleagues Jan Wyglendacz and Kevin Jones, who support Welsh lifeboat volunteers from the RNLI’s St Asaph base are putting the wheels in motion for a sponsored bike ride around Anglesey.
Jan, a maintainance manager and Kevin, an engineer will be joined by cyclists from across North Wales at the charity’s event next Sunday, 22 May.
The workmates from St Asaph and Rhuallt are now calling on people across North Wales to join them on the ride to raise funds to support the charity’s volunteer crews.
Jan, who has only very recently taken up cycling as a hobby says:
‘Our usual role is helping to make sure the lifeboats around the Welsh coast are in a constant state of readiness to respond to call-outs 24/7, from an operational perspective. However this is not possible without the support of the public, whose generosity we rely on to keep the RNLI charity afloat. We felt it is important that we play our part in helping to fundraise towards saving lives at sea.’
The sponsored cycle which starts and ends at Beaumaris Lifeboat Station is suitable for all ages. Participants can choose from a 25 mile route to Moelfre, or pedal their way to Holyhead through Trearddur Bay on a 60 mile route.
The two routes explore the scenic countryside and coastline of Anglesey. They each take in the beautiful sights of the historic lifeboat stations at Trearddur Bay, recently visited by Prince William and Kate Middleton, Holyhead, the village of Moelfre and the start and finish point of Beaumaris, where food and drink will be available.
Kevin says:
‘It is set to be a super day with all cyclists receiving a goody bag and everyone who pledges to raise over £100 in sponsorship will receive a free t-shirt. We hope people across North Wales will join us in taking part, they will not only have a fabulous day but will have also helped to save lives at sea this summer.’
