Road Safety Final Win for Sandfields Primary

The annual Road Safety Quiz Final at the Apollo Cinema on Aberavon Seafront has once again been a resounding success.

Neath Port Talbot Council’s road safety team has teamed up with South Wales Police to organise the 13th annual quiz.

14 primary schools battled their way through the preliminary rounds which was attended by nearly fifty schools county borough wide.

In the final stage tension and excitement was mounting as the teams battled it out over five rounds, four on road safety and one on general knowledge.

Whilst all the scores were being verified all the pupils were treated to popcorn and drinks whilst watching the trailers for this year’s releases.

The standard was extremely high with Sandfields Primary winning the overall event with a massive 89 out of 100. Runner up position was taken by Pontrydyfen Primary. Every pupil received a certificate for participating whilst Sandfields Primary had the pleasure of taking the winning trophy back to their school for the next year.

Leader of Council, Ali Thomas, said, “We are once again delighted by the support from our teaching staff to this important initiative.

“The enthusiasm of the children and the knowledge gained in road safety is an important lesson that will stay with them for life.

“My congratulations go to both Sandfields and Pontrhydyfen Primary Schools as well as all the other schools that entered. The 2010 Quiz was extremely enjoyable and a beneficial event for all.

“I would also like to convey my thanks to the Apollo Cinema for donating the use of their cinema and South Wales Police for their continued support.”
