The dangers of drink driving have been highlighted to army personnel in the shape of a hard-hitting presentation.
Members of Wrexham’s 101 Force Support Battalion REME were given a special presentation by Wrexham Council’s Assistant Road Safety Officer, Wendy Davies-Williams and Andy Williams from White Watch, Wrexham Fire Service at the Wrexham Barracks.
The ‘Impact Road Show’ presentation aims to highlight the dangers of drink driving to Army Personnel before they go home for the Christmas break. The presentation graphically demonstrates the damage that can be inflicted to the human body during a car crash. Inside the vehicle are two manikins, depicting a young driver and his passenger. The manikins display the types of injuries that can be sustained during a collision where the driver has been drinking.
The presentation is part of the Road Safety Sections campaign to raise people’s awareness to the dangers of drink driving over the festive period.
Wendy Davies-Williams from the Council said:
“With the festive period just around the corner it is vital that we reach as many people as possible. The ‘Impact Road Show’ presentation is an effective way to get the message home as it graphically shows the consequences of drink driving and the damage it can cause. Linking up with Fire Service particularly at this time of year is a great use of combined expert resources.”
Major Andrew Bate of Headquarter Company, 101 Force Support Battalion, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers said:
“The Ministry of Defence take Road Safety very seriously. We are delighted the Local Authority and Fire Brigade are assisting us in encouraging our soldiers to set the highest standards of Road Safety and make the local community a safer place for all.”
