The popular Conservatory in Roath Park is to benefit from a refurbishment this month.
Cardiff Council is carrying out the work in order to refresh the much loved facility which attracts more than 30,000 visitors each year.
Cabinet Member for Sport Leisure and Culture, Cllr Ramesh Patel said: “The conservatory was built in the 1970’s and is looking dated from the outside and is in need of work to improve it. It is a unique facility with a very popular education programme which is used by many of Cardiff’ schools, and we want to ensure that it is updated and improved so that it can continue to flourish and attract more visitors.”
In order to carry out the planned work, the Conservatory will be closed for a short period of time from 13 March and will re-open on Mothering Sunday, 30 March. Plans include improvements to the entrance, with new branding fitted to the front. The seals in the foyer will be replaced and restoration work to the exterior brickwork will also be carried out. The foyer will be refitted and will be stocked with plants and gifts for sale.
Cllr Patel continued: “The temporary closure is necessary to ensure that works are carried out in an efficient and safe way and I have no doubt that they will result in a much improved facility. When we re-open the Conservatory, the Council will be taking the opportunity to establish a new programme of activities during the rest of the year, including seasonal events.
“We want to ensure the long term sustainability of the conservatory, and that as many people as possible can enjoy what’s on offer at this much loved facility for many years to come.”
