Aled Roberts, Welsh Liberal Democrat AM for North Wales is today calling on the Welsh Government to provide certainty about the future of rail improvements to the Wrexham – Saltney rail line.
Commenting, Aled Roberts said:
“Despite the redoubling of the track between Wrexham and Saltney Junction being prioritised for delivery between 2009 and 2013, we are still waiting for work to begin.
“It is disappointing that the Minister has recently decided to review the rail infrastructure project in North Wales, adding to already significant delays.
“We need to know why this work is being postponed and when we can expect to see the improvements in place.
“When I queried the delays with the First Minister today, he first responded by saying that we can expect to have an update “within the month” and I very much hope that is the case and we can move on.
“The North East Wales Task Force on Integrated Transport have clearly indicated the importance of rail improvements for the economic development of the region, and the Welsh Government now needs to show its commitment by making a swift announcement on how it will implement the conclusions of the Task Force.
