Commenting on the potential job losses at First Milk, Wrexham, Aled Roberts, North Wales Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member said:
“The potential job losses at First Milk would be devastating for the economy of North East Wales.
“This follows from the Vion closure at Gaerwen on Anglesey some months ago when they lost a contract with ASDA. The effect of closures like this on the continued viability of the agriculture industry in North Wales cannot be underestimated although the most immediate concern here is the effect of this announcement on the workers and their families.
“I have already called on the Welsh Government to answer urgent questions on what steps can be taken to help employees in this difficult time. I intend to meet with the company to discuss today’s announcement and also with Wrexham council to ensure that support would be available to employees if we are unable to change the company’s mind.”
