Roll Up! Roll Up! For a Circus Themed Summer Reading Challenge

Cardiff libraries have turned to the circus to help encourage children aged between four and 12 to read this summer.

The annual Summer Reading Challenge will take place during the school summer holiday. The aim of the challenge is to get children to read six books during their time off.

NoFitState Circus will help launch the challenge on Saturday, July 23 at Cardiff Central Library. From 12noon members from the circus will demonstrate their skills and invite children to take part in the challenge.

During the challenge, circus themed  events will be taking place at Central Library and branch libraries across Cardiff, including storytelling and craft sessions.

Throughout the UK 760,000 children will be taking part in the 13th Summer Reading Challenge, which has a proven record of encouraging children to read while out of school.

Children who take part will also receive a moving image membership card and a colorful 3D circus stage. Throughout the challenge children can collect scratch and sniff stickers to put on the 3D stage and a selection of rewards as they read their way towards a certificate and medal.

More information about the challenge can be found at www.circus-stars.org.uk
The fun interactvie website will feature Cardiff library staff as Ringmasters from July 21st until August 4th: they will be offering reading advice and encouragement.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said:  “The summer Reading Challenge is a fun way to encourage children to read during their summer holidays.
