In SWALEC Division Two West, second-placed Waunarlwydd secured their promotion from the division with a 22-10 win over Kidwelly at Roseland Road. Centre Andrew Rees-Spowart stormed over for two tries and he was joined on the score sheet by Alan Pope and Daniel Joseph who also touched down.
Elsewhere Lougher upset third-placed BP Llandarcy in a titanic battle, coming out with a 25-22 win. Four Lougher tries, by Stuart Lynch, Marc O’Kelly, Tom Blyth and John Phillips were nullified by a James McKenna try for BP Llandarcy and 17-points from the boot of Nathan Hosgrove. But a last minute penalty by Lougher flyhalf, Ben Davies, secured an impressive win for the visitors.
Elsewhere in the division Aberavon Quins rubbed salt into the wounds of relegated Dunvant with a 61-11 victory at Plascrug. The hosts ran in nine tries in the game, Mark Shepard, Chris Jones, Andrew Dacey, Steve Colarusso, Alex Sheehy, Craig Cox and captain Richard Wanklyn all crossing for tries.
Division Three West champions,Newcastle Emlyn, got back to winning ways after losing to Llandeilo last week, with a 15-8 over Llanelli Wanderers, fullback Bedwyn Rees scoring the crucial try.
In Division Four, third-placed Pontardillais crossed for six tries in a 40-12 victory over Milford Haven. Martin Rees, Gary Williams, Jonathan Hire, Gethin Williams, Steffan Williams and Aled Thomas the scorers.
In the basement battle of Pembroke, the Quins saw off their rivals in a 25-8 triumph. David Baynon scored Pembroke RFC’s only try while Pembroke Quins racked up three to win the town’s bragging rights. With both sides propping up the league, the win was a vital boost for the Quins who are still not safe from relegation, while the chances of Pembroke RFC staying up looks increasingly unlikely.
Meanwhile in Division Five South Central, Bridgend Sports notched up 110 points against Hirwaun. Flyhalf Matthew Murphy was in irresistible form and contributed 30-points while scrum-half Chris Morgan and second row Jamie Lorimar both grabbing a hat-trick of tries.
