Round Up: SWALEC One West

Whitland maintained their grip on the top spot in SWALEC Division 1 West with a convincing 31-18 home win over Bonymaen.

Four tries flowed as Pembrokeshire’s finest hit back from a 15-14 interval deficit to pick up the result and a bonus point. Wings Will Davies and Dion Thomas led the way before centre Lee Glanville and prop Alun Davies followed suit.

Tonmawr kept up the pressure at the top with a 25-15 home win over Narberth to keep within five points of the leaders/ Warren Davies and Darryl Harvey scored their tries and replacement outside half Juan Scoino landed four penalties to add to one from Davies.

The Bridgend Ravens’ revival continued with a 45-24 away win at Llangennech – their second triumph of the season. But while it was only their second victory, they once again came up with a bonus point, making it seven in eight games.

That’s more than any other team in the league and has lifted them clear of the relegation zone. Gareth Howells, Liam Powell, Tom Ancock, Matthew Davies and Phil Whelan crossed the home line and there was also a penalty try.

There were also half-a-dozen tries for Corus in their 47-13 home win over Felinfoel. Scott Robinson led the way with two and Aled Bevan, Richard Thomas and Anthony Rogers got the others. Robinson also helped himself to five conversions and three penalties for a match tally of 29 points.

Cwmllynfell came out on top in the battle of the basement teams as they beat bottom of the table Builth Wells 24-10 to move seven points clear of them in the relegation zone. Full back Rhyddian James got two of the home team’s tries and scrum half Alun Steele the other.

Bridgend Athletic outside half Steve Lewis was the toast of his club as he scored 18 points in the 28-10 triumph over Carmarthen Athletic. As well as converting all four tries in the bonus point victory he also scored two of them himself.
