Members of Wales’ international rugby squad have got behind a campaign for a more sustainable future for our children and grandchildren.

In the run-up to WWF’s Earth Hour, players are encouraging fans to take part in the #welshwish initiative at wwf.org.uk/welshwish

They are also urging fans to sign up and switch off for Earth Hour itself, which takes place at 8:30PM on Saturday 29 March.

On WWF Cymru’s #welshwish website you choose a ‘wish’ for thriving forests, healthy seas or a safe climate to share with your friends via Facebook or Twitter.

By making the wish, you show their support for a new law to make Wales a more sustainable country – and add your face to an online ‘galaxy of stars’.

Wales captain Sam Warburton said:

“We are proud to support the Welsh Wish campaign as part of Earth Hour, because it is about Wales coming together to support a brighter future.

“WWF’s Earth Hour is a celebration of our planet and we need to ensure the beauty is there for future generations to enjoy.

“We are encouraging everyone to support Earth Hour and visit the Welsh Wish website.”

#WelshWish is part of WWF’s Earth Hour – the world’s biggest celebration for our amazing planet.

Earth Hour involves hundreds of millions of people from across the world coming together in a symbolic and spectacular light outs display.

Last year it was a huge success. Globally, around 7,000 towns and cities in more than 152 countries took part. Many iconic Welsh buildings joined in, including Caernarfon Castle, Bangor and Aberystwyth Universities, Wales Millennium Centre, the Senedd, St David’s Hotel and Ikea.

Anne Meikle, Head of WWF Cymru, said:

“Having the support of our rugby stars is a real boost for our Welsh Wish campaign.

“Earth Hour is Wales’ chance to shine on the world stage and this year we want our small country to lead in creating a more sustainable world.

“In 2014, we have a great opportunity to do this in Wales. A strong Future Generations Bill would mean putting a sustainable future into law – delivering a ‘one planet nation’ that uses its fair share of resources.

“That would mean a brighter future for people and nature – so please show your support by joining Welsh Wish today.”
