Rugby stars tackle domestic abuse

The 13th annual White Ribbon Day is being held on 25th November – and has been given a boost by Ospreys rugby stars.

The white ribbon is a symbol of hope for women and girls to live free from the fear of violence and abuse, an opportunity for everyone in the community to show that they do not accept or condone violence against women.

This year’s campaign in Neath Port Talbot is being supported by the Ospreys.

Neath Port Talbot Domestic Abuse Coordinator Julia Lewis said: “Having the support of this campaign from such a high profile team is fantastic.

“We need to ensure that our communities stand together and that victims have the information and support they need and to let perpetrators know their behaviour will not be tolerated.

“It is important that we use the White Ribbon Campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse in our area so that victims know where to go for help, how to report domestic abuse, and what help and support there is available to them so they, and their children, can start to live a safer life.”

The Neath Port Talbot Domestic Abuse Forum has arranged events across the county, these will include information centres at Neath Port Talbot Hospital, the Neath and Afan campus’ of Neath Port Talbot College as well as a bluetooth messaging campaign at rugby and football matches.

You can call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline free on 0808 80 10 800 if you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse. The helpline offers a confidential 24 hour service to men, women and children.
