Information received by the Welsh Conservatives has confirmed the closure of the Wales Rural Observatory, a research body set up to collect and analyse rural data and undertake research on issues facing rural Wales. This research includes a number of areas such as environmental issues, the rural economy and housing and service provision.
Commenting on the closure of the Observatory, local Assembly Member Paul Davies said,
“I’m disappointed that the Welsh Government has decided to close the Rural Observatory. This move will certainly have an effect on rural proofing Government policies in Wales. People living in rural areas like Pembrokeshire deserve to be fully considered as part of any Government policy, and it’s essential that the collection and examination of rural data is not lost. This is an irresponsible move that will do nothing to ensure that the needs of rural communities are addressed and that services in rural areas are adequately provided.”
