A new stamp commemorating the centenary of the birth of Wales’ poet and writer Dylan Thomas has been welcomed by Montgomeryshire AM, Russell George.
Mr George attended the launch of the stamp in Cardiff. It is part of Royal Mail’s Remarkable Lives issue of stamps celebrating 10 individuals from the world of arts, sport, design, economics and heroism.
“It’s good to see a well-known Welsh individual on the set of stamps launched by Royal Mail,” said Mr George.
“Wales is celebrating the centenary of the birth of Dylan Thomas this year, one of the 20th centuries best known writers and poets and it’s fitting that he’s recognised in this way in 2014.”
The new stamps were launched by Royal Mail this week and include Roy Plomley, who created the BBC’s Desert Island Discs programme; Barbara Ward, who helped inspire the European Union; footballer, Joe Mercer; actor, Kenneth More; Dylan Thomas; actor, Sir Alec Guinness; Second World War hero, Noorunissa Inayat Khan; Max Perutx a medical pioneer; Joan Littlewood who revolutionized British theatre and artist and designer, Abram Games.
