Residents, officers and civic dignitaries enjoyed a special lunch to celebrate the opening of a new and improved restaurant and communal areas at the Awelon Residential Home in Ruthin on Monday.
Awelon is an existing residential home and building work is underway to also provide 21 state-of-the-art, one and two bedroomed apartments on the site as part of a multi-million pound extra care housing scheme, which is due to open this summer.
As part of this, new tenants at the Llys Awelon Extra Care Scheme will be able to share the newly refurbished facilities with residents at Awelon, which includes a new restaurant, kitchen, a hairdressing and therapy facility and communal lounge.
The scheme has been funded by the Welsh Assembly Government and has been developed in partnership with Denbighshire County Council and Tai Clwyd Housing Association.
Cabinet Lead Member for Health, Social Care and Wellbeing, said: “These are exciting times for older people in Denbighshire.
“Demographic change is one of Denbighshire’s four main priorities and it is wonderful to see developments like this coming to fruition thanks to the funding from WAG and partnership working with Tai Clwyd.”
Anyone interested in finding out more about the scheme can write to the Scheme Manager at Cymdeithas Tai Clwyd, 54, Vale Street, Denbigh, LL16 3BW or by phoning 0345 230 3140.
