Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that work on a £300,000 scheme to improve the flood defences for the Glasdir Estate in Ruthin is due to start this week.
Residents living on the estate, where devastating flooding affected 122 homes in 2012, have been keen for the work to start, but a number of obstacles have delayed the process.
However Denbighshire County Council confirmed this week that contractors will be moving on to the site in the coming few days and the work is expected to take around two months to complete.
Darren said:
“This is extremely welcome news indeed. It has been a long and anxious wait for the residents of the Glasdir Estate, but thankfully it is over now and they will see this vital work to protect their homes completed by the end of the summer.
“They have endured a horrific 18 months, but with improved defences in place they can go into the winter months with the peace of mind that their homes are protected and they should never have to face such an ordeal in the future.”
The cost of the work is being shared between the County Council, the site developer (Taylor Wimpey) and the Welsh Government.
