Ruthin Community Hospital has a long-term future according to Clwyd West AM and Shadow Health Minister Darren Millar, who visited the facility this week to meet with local health chiefs.
The visit follows speculation over the future of the hospital after the temporary closure of its Minor Injuries Unit in December last year.
During the visit Darren met with the Acting Chief Executive of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Geoff Lang, Dr Olwen Williams, and locality Matron Frances Millar before touring the hospital to meet with staff and patients.
Darren said:
“Ruthin Community Hospital is an important part of the health jigsaw in rural Denbighshire and it is vital that its services are maintained.
“The closure of the Minor Injuries Unit last year was a huge blow for Ruthin and caused a lot of uncertainty for hard-working staff at the hospital.
“I am pleased that the Health Board have given a commitment to re-opening the Minor Injuries Unit at the hospital on the 1st April and I am now reassured that the hospital has a long-term future.
“Reviews of the services provided by community hospitals in the area are the subject of an on-going review and I would encourage people to write into the Health Board with their views.”
