S4C officials today attended the Welsh Assembly Government’s Forum on the future of the Channel, a debate already welcomed by the S4C Authority.
S4C has also welcomed the cross-party position expressed in the Welsh Assembly party leaders’ letter about the future of the channel to Prime Minister, David Cameron.
Chairman of the S4C Authority, John Walter Jones, said, “S4C will, of course, be ready to play a central role in order to ensure that future arrangements for the Channel will meet the needs of viewers at the start of the 21st century. For months we’ve emphasised the need for a comprehensive review of S4C and the result of Sir Jon Shortridge’s work on S4C’s corporate governance will be published soon. It’s vitally important then that the review process continues.”
“In the meantime, S4C and DCMS will be discussing the implications of Culture Minister, Jeremy Hunt’s announcement about the future funding of S4C and as the party leaders emphasise in their letter, the independence of public service broadcasters in the Welsh language will underpin these discussions.”
