For the first time ever, families attending a special Easter weekend break at Llangrannog Urdd Centre will enjoy a range of activities with S4C’s TV characters and presenters from the popular Cyw’s children service.
This is the first time S4C’s Cyw characters and presenters are working with the residential centre during a whole weekend break, which has been especially created to attract families with young children to the centre. The Centre sits on the Ceredigion coast, and is approximately seven miles south of New Quay.
During the Cyw Family Weekend which takes place on the Easter weekend, Friday 18 of April until Sunday, 20 of April 2014, Trystan, Gareth and Rachael, S4C’s Cyw presenters will work with Llangrannog’s Urdd Centre experts to facilitate the range of activities available. Under the watchful eye of the Centre’s staff, all three TV stars will share in the actvities with the families, including horse-riding, swimming, climbing, wildcrafts and fun on the trampoline.
One of the colourful characters who will be visiting during the weekend is Ben Dant, the famous S4C pirate from Ynys y Môr Ladron. Ben dant will invite all the families to Llangrannog beach during the weekend to play games. There will also be an opportunity back at the centre during the evenings to dance in a Welsh twmpath, and join in a song and dance session.
Steff Jenkins, Llangrannog Urdd Centre Director said: “The activities that we will have for families will no doubt appeal to young children who follow these programmes on TV and the web. We have, in conjunction with S4C, created a jam packed timetable for families to enjoy together with the Centre’s activities such as skiing, go-karting and horseriding whilst savouring the beautiful coastal location. It is a new venture and one we look forward to welcoming.”
Garffild Lloyd Lewis, S4C’s Director of Communication, Marketing and Partnerships said: “Cyw is more than S4C’s children service; the characters and presenters are a part of Welsh children’s lives. They adore seeing Cyw and his friends, Einir, Trystan, Gareth and Rachael on TV, at Eisteddfod and Christmas shows, and they enjoy stories about the characters on Apps, in books and on Cyw’s website.
“This is an opportunity for the whole family to enjoy a weekend in the company of the presenters and characters – an experience which will, no doubt, be ingrained in their memory forever. We are pleased to be working with Llangrannog Urdd Centre in order that youngsters from across Wales are offered this experience knowing that it will be a weekend to remember.”
Recently, Wales First Minister, Carwyn Jones opened a new £1 million accommodation block within the Centre, which sleeps 128. This new section brings the accommodation up to the high standards seen in the rest of Llangrannog Urdd Centre, and brings the total accommodation figure to 520. The new block replaces the old wooden cabins, Hendre and Gelli built back in the 80s.
