Safety warning for Bonfire Night

Families from all over Swansea will be descending on St Helen’s this Friday (November 5) for the city’s Sparks in the Dark fireworks display.

And Swansea Council is urging revellers to be careful and make sure they have a fun time in a responsible way.

Part of the drive involves the BANG (Be a Nice Guy) campaign spearheaded by the Safer Swansea Partnership that’s aimed at tackling the dangerous misuse of fireworks.

Gates for the November 5 event open at 5.30pm and the fireworks display starts at 7.30pm. Circus skills, glow jugglers and stilt-walkers have been lined-up and live music will come from Injustice, Vanquish and The Kixx. Real Radio will also be on hand to play music on stage throughout the event and a headline act will be announced later this week.

Frances Jenkins, Swansea Council’s Strategic Manager for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “St Helen’s is a fantastic venue for this event.

“It provides an environment where people can enjoy all the fun of a large fireworks display but in a safe and organised fashion. The atmosphere is always terrific.

“Families in the area can be reassured that the fireworks at St Helen’s will be the biggest and best display in the area and people’s safety will be paramount.”

Tickets are now on sale and can be bought online at www.swansea.gov.uk/fireworks or by phoning 01792 475715.

Tickets can also be picked up in person from the Grand Theatre, Swansea Tourist Information Centre, Mumbles Tourist Information Centre, Swansea Civic Centre or any Active Swansea Leisure Centre.

Family tickets are available up until Thursday November 4 for £12.50.

Residents who see bonfires being built on public land can report it to the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service on 0370 6060699.
