Sandbach: Loss Of Irreplaceable Ancient Woodland

Antoinette_SandbachCommenting on the felling of larch trees in one of Wales’ largest ancient woodlands, Wentwood Forest, due to fungal disease, Antoinette Sandbach AM, Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs, said:

“Felling these trees across an area of 500 acres represents a major loss of irreplaceable ancient woodland and lays bare the high price of disease in our forests.

“This tragic loss highlights again the need for increased biosecurity in our woodlands to prevent the spread of disease by humans.

“There remains an important role for Natural resources Wales in raising awareness of the need to clean footwear both prior to entering and upon leaving woodland areas to avoid transferring disease from one forest to another.”
