Santa Appeal given a huge boost

Kind-hearted staff and students at the University of Glamorgan have once again given huge support to a campaign to ensure every child has a happy Christmas in 2010.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor Cllr Simon Lloyd was delighted to visit the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science at the university this month, where they presented him with an impressive 150 presents collected for this year’s Santa Appeal.

The Santa Appeal is run every year by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Children’s Services department to ensure vulnerable children do not miss out at Christmas.

The successful appeal invites people to buy gifts for boys and girls of all ages across the County Borough, ensuring they have a present to open on Christmas day.

Thanks to the efforts of the University of Glamorgan, and hundreds of other people across the County Borough, presents have been collected for this year’s Santa Appeal.

Mayor Cllr Simon Lloyd said: “The Santa Appeal is such an important campaign and one the Council is proud to organise and drive every year in order to ensure children, especially the vulnerable, do not miss out at this time of year.

“Each year it is a success thanks to the generosity and kindness of people such as those in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, who buy presents for the Council to distribute.”

Dr Cath Jones, Acting Dean of the Faculty said: “We were pleased to support this campaign as it is something we have done in previous years – it is such a good cause.

“It was also an honour to meet the Mayor and hand over the gifts to be given to young people this Christmas.
