Saracens meet Toulon in the Heineken Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday 24 May. Kick off is at 5pm and a crowd of 74,000 is expected at the game.
Cardiff Council is issuing the following travel advice and information:
The best way to get to the game is by public transport and coach wherever possible. Those bringing their cars into the city, can ease concerns over congestion and parking charges by using the Council’s park and ride service.
Park and ride is available from junctions 29 and 33 of the M4 at a cost of £10 per car. Junction 29 at Pentwyn (White Car Park) has a drop off point at Churchill Way. Junction 33 at Cardiff City Football Club (Yellow Car Park) has a drop off point at Tresillian Way North, at the rear of the Railway Station.
Park and ride customers are advised to follow the signage on arrival. The car parks will have a staff presence from 9am when they open and will close at 9.30pm. The first bus will leave at 9am and the last bus will leave the pick-up point at 9pm.
Coach parking is available at a cost of £15 per coach. Cardiff Airport coaches will access the city from the west via the A4232 and use Taff’s Mead Embankment for drop-off and collection. General spectator’s coaches will leave the M4 at J32 and follow signs to the dedicated coach parking area in Sophia Gardens. Any event car parking in Sophia Close will cost £10 per car.
There will be road closures from 3:00pm – 8:00pm.
Kingsway from its junction with North Rd / Boulevard de Nantes to its junction with Duke St.
Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Rd to its junction with Westgate St.
Tudor St from its junction with Clare Rd to its junction with Wood St (access for residents & traders will be permitted via Fitzhammon Embankment).
Plantagenet St & Beauchamp St from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor St (access for residents & traders will be permitted).
The following roads will be closed in their entirety: – Duke St, Castle St, High St, St.Mary St, Caroline St, Wood St, Central Sq, Westgate St, Quay St, Guildhall Pl, Golate, Park St, Havelock St & Scott Rd.
The route to the front of the rail station, Station Approach in Central Sq from its junction with Wood St, will be closed from 10am – 10pm, with access for buses to the bus station being maintained outside of the full road closure times.
In addition from 10am – 3pm, the following route will be closed to facilitate the ‘Fan Zone’:
Kingsway from its junction with North Rd/Boulevard de Nantes to its junction with Duke St and Castle St from its junction with Westgate St to its junction with Kingsway.
In order to accommodate airport coaches, Taff’s Mead Embankment and Pendyris Street will be closed to through traffic, but not residents, between 6am and 9pm.
