Sarah’s art selected for national collection

Works of art by Gower College Swansea lecturer Sarah Hopkins have been purchased by the Palace of Westminster for the Parliamentary Art Collection.

The four screen prints, depicting scenes of South Wales’ cultural heritage, will be displayed at Millbank House

The Parliamentary Works of Art collection is a publicly owned collection that includes statues, paintings, photography, ceramics, tapestry, medals and coins.

In recent years, the House of Lords Works of Art Committee has expanded the contemporary collection by promoting the work of living artists. This has included acquiring works of art which reflect the diversity of landscapes in the UK and showcase the work of regional artists.

“I’m delighted that my work will be displayed at No 1 Millbank,” says Sarah, who is Assistant Learning Area Manager for Creative Arts. “One objective of this initiative is to showcase work by contemporary British artists that captures our identity and cultural diversity. It’s a huge honour that my work has been chosen to represent Wales.”
