Powys parents can now find out quickly if their school has been forced to close, thanks to a new county council service.
The new service will provide up-to-date information on the council’s website www.powys.gov.uk on schools forced to close because of severe weather, staffing shortages or other utility problems.
As soon as a decision is taken to close a school, a warning notice will be published on the opening page of the council’s website.
Information will sent to local and regional media at the same time so that news of a closure can be publicised on local radio and television channels, as well as on internet news services.
The service is designed to speed up closure information and give parents somewhere easy to find the most up-to-date closure news, reducing the volume of calls to school and councils offices.
