School dinners mean prizes for pupils

Wednesdays are set to become a favourite among primary school children in Swansea.

As a pirate-themed campaign to boost the number of children enjoying a healthy school meal at lunch time gains momentum, mascot Captain Jack is launching his Win Wednesdays scheme.

Throughout the Spring Term the Swansea School Meals Team will be running the four-week scheme in schools across the city and county, and youngsters having a school lunch could be in line for lots of pirate booty.

Bet Jenkins, Head of the School Meals Service, said: “Youngsters who are having school meals will have a great chance to win a prize every Wednesday while the competition is running in their school canteen. Captain Jack is also continuing his visits to different primary schools and the youngsters are always glad to see him.”

Since the launch of the campaign in October an extra 350 primary school children are now eating school meals – an increase of 4%.

Having a school dinner in primary school means you get a menu with two courses, a drink and fruit and bread and butter for just £1.90.
