School meal slogan competition

Secondary school pupils in Torfaen have less than a week to submit ideas for a competition to win an iPod Touch and £250 for their school.

Torfaen Council is asking pupils to think of a slogan for a healthly school meals campaign which could be used on bus adverts later this year.

Entries must be submitted by Sunday February 28. Two winners will then be chosen.

Secondary school pupils can post their ideas to Ben Payne, Torfaen Council, Panteg Way, New Inn, NP4 0LS or email [email protected]

A Torfaen Council spokesman said: “We want pupils to think of existing slogans like ‘5-a day’ and ‘you are what you eat’ and come up with their own version.”

The competition is part of the Appetite for Life project which has seen £200,000 spent on upgrading kitchens at seven comprehensive schools in Torfaen.

The project, which is funded by the Welsh Assembly, has also seen the introduction of a healthy meal action plan, aimed at giving schoolchildren a balanced and nutritious diet.

It has also provided better training for kitchen staff.
