A fallen tree has caused extensive damage to a Vale of school’s playground during the strong winds overnight.
The oak tree fell onto the outside playground at Ysgol Bro Cinmeirch at Llanrhaeadr near Denbigh. This part of the playground is used by Foundation Phase pupils as an external classroom.
The tree damaged a canopy, a wendy house and the tarmac area. There was no damage reported to the school building.
Headteacher Gwennol Ellis said: “You can imagine the shock when we arrived at school this morning to find the oak tree had toppled over on to the playground. The tree has split into three parts and caused considerable damage.
The play area was used by our younger children as their outdoor classroom and it was an important facility so this will cause some problems for us.
“We don’t know the financial impact but it could run into several thousand pounds worth of damage – that will need to be assessed”.
