School pupils learn consequences of underage drinking through drama

‘Last Orders’ – a hard hitting play that teaches young people the dangers of underage drinking – was performed for pupils from Glyncoed and Ebbw Vale Comprehensive Schools.

The play – performed by educational theatre company Solomon – is based on real life events and tells the story of a group of young people facing up to the consequences of night spent drinking.

The scheme is being led by the Council’s Trading Standards and Licensing teams and included a series of workshops looking at the issues that affect young people today including health, relationships, sexual health, anti-social behaviour and personal safety.

Headteacher at Glyncoed Colin James said:

“This certainly made our pupils realise the consequences of the actions they witnessed in the performance.”

Councillor John Hopkins, Executive for Crime and Disorder and Safer Communities said:

“Underage drinking can have a detrimental effect on the health and life choices of young people and can also impact on our local communities through anti-social behaviour. This event was a huge success and we hope to be able to put on more productions like this in our schools soon.”
