A Swansea school has said goodbye to its head teacher as the doors close for the Easter holiday.
Paul Smith hopes to turn his attention to the great outdoors after retiring from Daniel James Community School.
Mr Smith, a keen skiing and diving enthusiast, joined the school having been a Deputy Head Teacher in Hampshire.
He hopes to spend more time travelling and enjoying married life as he prepares for his first wedding anniversary.
Mr Smith said: “It’s been a great privilege to be the Head of Daniel James School. The warmth of the children, the staff and governors will be my abiding memory.
“I wish the school every success for the future.”
Mr Smith’s Deputy, Eddie Gracia, is also retiring. He was previously Deputy Head Teacher at the former Penlan Comprehensive and joined Daniel James at its inception following the merger of Penlan and Mynyddbach schools in 2001.
Ceinwen Thomas, the school’s Chair of Governors, said: “Paul Smith and Eddie Gracia have made a massive contribution to Daniel James School.
“They are well-loved and respected by both the staff and pupils and will be missed by everyone at the school.
“The governors want to express their gratitude to Paul and Eddie and wish them a long and happy retirement.”
Rod Francis has been appointed Acting Head Teacher and Matthew Salmon has been appointed Acting Deputy Head Teacher. They will take up their posts after the Easter break.
