There were surprise visits by police to five different properties in the Colwyn Bay area today (Wednesday, September 15) as officers executed search warrants as part of a special operation.
Over 26 officers were involved in the operation which was organised with the principal aim of recovering stolen property. It was undertaken in response to a number of burglaries and thefts that have happened in the area since April this year.
Codenamed ‘Amain’, the intelligence led work saw specialist scenes of crime officers, method of entry officers and members of the dog section assist.
To date, a number of items have been recovered including bicycles, garden and power tools. All the items recovered will now be checked in a bid to establish if they are stolen property. A substantial amount of cash has also been recovered and has been seized under the proceeds of crime act.
Speaking about today’s operation, DC Martyn Parmley said: “We are pleased with today’s operation. Since April, a number of burglaries have happened at properties, commercial premises and there have been thefts from sheds and vehicles. This is our response to this. So far, many items have been seized from the properties targeted and our team of officers will now be making further inquiries to establish if the items seized are in fact stolen property.”
He added: “Local Colwyn Bay officers also played their part and were involved in today’s work. Many of them continue to be out and about on high visibility patrols in a bid to reassure members of the public. They are also gathering intelligence and we are urging anyone who may have information regarding anyone they suspect to be involved in criminal activity to speak to them in confidence or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
He added: “We want to reassure the public that we will act on intelligence.”
