Second reward offered

A second anonymous donor has come forward to offer a further £5,000 for information leading to the arrest, charge and subsequent conviction of whoever is responsible for the murder of Ffion Wyn Roberts.

Last week an anonymous Porthmadog businessman put up a £5,000 reward. This has now been doubled to £10,000 by a second similar offer from another local person.

The Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Peter Chalinor said: “The local communities of Porthmadog and Tremadog have worked with us throughout this investigation and we are extremely grateful to them for the assistance they have given us. However, there may be someone out there with information which could be important to the investigation and these financial rewards may encourage someone to come forward.”

North Wales Police continue to have a team of 44 people working on the case.

Since the investigation started in April North Wales Police have:

  • collected over 1,800 hours of CCTV footage which they are in the process of viewing
  • interviewed over 5,300 people and taken statements from 406.
  • collected 722 exhibits, 77 of which have been sent for forensic examination.
  • established that only one container of shoes similar to the one found was delivered to the UK in December 2009; 12 pairs went to each factory shop in Porthmadog, Barmouth and Pwllheli.
  • over half of the shoes have been sold – half paid for by cash, the other half by card
  • established that the tracksuit bottoms which were found were probably bought from an Ethel Austin store – checks are still being made on this.

Detective Superintendent Chalinor said: “This is proving to be a complex and lengthy investigation, but, as I have said before, North Wales Police remain committed to bringing the person or persons responsible for Ffion’s death to justice.

A great deal of work is going on behind the scenes and everyone involved will continue to make every effort to bring this enquiry to a successful conclusion.”

North Wales Police are still anxious to hear from anyone who has information about the items which were found. These include Ffion’s handbag, a pair of extra large, blue tracksuit bottoms and a training shoe which were found near a sluice gate in Porthmadog on the afternoon of Saturday, April 10.
