It’s been coming for a while now and the city’s been pressing its nose up against what pieces of glass are available to them to see what they can see but here are some of the first images form inside Wales’ biggest department store, which opens its doors on Thursday at 9.30am.
Inside are 350,000 products across four floors and 170,000 sq ft of selling space.
John Lewis Cardiff managing director, Liz Mihell, and pupils from St Mary the Virgin Primary School, who buried a time capsule in the shop in July, will officiate at the ribbon cutting.
Liz Mihell said: “Ever since work began on the shop we have been made to feel extremely welcome by people across Wales. Cardiff is a growing and vibrant city and to be a part of such an exciting time in its history feels very special.”
There’ll be street entertainment for those who turn up early to queue and rickshaws will pick you up and pedal you there. Look out for living mannequins through the city centre and once you get inside you can listen to the Cardiff Arms Park male voice choir – it really is John Lewis day in Cardiff!
This is the second biggest Lewis’ store outside London and is being used as a testing ground for a whole new way of shopping for womenswear. Another first for the chain is a set of computer access points on the shop floor. The store has the largest John Lewis espresso bar, and a 293 seat restaurant.
