Sexual assault Canton: Appeal for witnesses

Police are appealing for witnesses in relation to a sexual assault that took place on the forecourt of Tesco Express, Cowbridge Road East, Canton, during the early hours of Sunday May 1.

Since the incident was reported to South Wales Police, officers have been working closely within the community doing house to house enquiries, speaking to local businesses and identifying both private and local authority CCTV cameras.

DI Noel Harris, from Fairwater CID, said: “The victim is a 25-year-old local woman who had been socialising in the city centre with friends. It is possible that the culprit has followed the woman from the city centre to the location of the incident near Tesco.”

The suspect is described as male, believed to be 25 to 40 year old, as having dark skin, of slight build with afro style hair and was wearing a black jacket.

DI Harris added: “An incident room has been set up at Fairwater police station and detectives are currently following various lines of enquiry including CCTV images to try and identify the offender.

“I am appealing for anyone who has any information to contact the police or for the offender to contact the police before he is identified by CCTV.”

Detectives are doing all they can to arrest this man while ensuring the victim receives all the necessary support and is kept fully updated on the investigation.

Anyone with information, or was in the area between 3am 4am that day, is asked to contact Fairwater CID on 02920 528 011 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
