Mohammad Asghar AM has met with members from the Welsh Senate of Older People to discuss their campaign promoting the importance of public toilets.
The Senate’s ‘P is for People’ campaign has called on the Welsh Government and local authorities to work together to keep public toilets open.
A group of over 100 older people rallied on the steps of the Senedd before meeting with Assembly Members, urging them to support the campaign.
Mr Asghar, Shadow Minister for Equalities, said: “I was delighted to discuss this hugely important campaign with members of the Welsh Senate of Older People.
“Public toilets are very important to our communities, so it is disappointing to hear estimates from the British Toilet Association that the UK’s public toilets have declined by over 40% over the last decade.”
Phyllis Preece of the Welsh Senate for Older People says: “We want our campaign to send a clear message that the public toilet network around Wales must be saved.
“Public toilets are a lifeline, especially for older people, pregnant women and parents with young children, yet they seem to be disappearing at a rate of knots from our communities”.
