Shadow Minister for Sport Mohammad Asghar has welcomed confirmation that the men’s and women’s GB Olympic football teams will play group matches in Cardiff.
The men’s team, coached by Stuart Pearce, will play one group match at the Millennium Stadium, whilst Hope Powell’s women’s team will play two.
The South Wales East AM said: “This is very welcome news for the city of Cardiff.
“The participation of Team GB in the Games’ football event has generated much interest across the globe – so there are massive benefits for South Wales in hosting matches.
“This news acts as further evidence as to why the Welsh Government should not be adopting such a lacklustre approach towards the Olympic and Paralympic Games”.
