This week International Development Secretary Justine Greening launched Shape the Future 2014, an opportunity for young people in schools across the UK to voice their views on the future of the Millennium Development Goals.
This year’s ‘Shape the Future’ competition will ask young people aged 11-16 to outline and present on their priorities for improving the lives of women and girls worldwide, which will be an important part of the development goals that succeed the MDGs after 2015.
The finalists will be invited to present their ideas at a youth event in the run up to the Girl Summit 2014 which the Prime Minister is hosting in London on the 22 July. The Girl Summit will particularly focus on tackling FGM (female genital mutilation) and CEFM (child, early and forced marriage) at home and overseas.

“This competition presents a unique opportunity to engage young people in girls’ and women’s issues and make their voices heard. Last year’s competition generated some fantastic ideas, and the winning school presented their suggestions for future development goals to Bill Gates and DFID Ministers. I very much hope that all the secondary schools in Cardiff Central will consider getting involved in this year’s exciting event.”
